Nebedaye Moringa farm projecT

Moringa is a multi-purpose tree native to the sub-Himalayan area of India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, and Afghanistan. It has exceptional dietary, medical, and environmental benefits, including more than 92 nutrients, 46 types of antioxidants, 36 anti-inflammatories, and is said to cure about 300 kinds of diseases. Moringa has been used to alleviate malnutrition in several poor countries and is largely unrivalled in its nutritional and medicinal properties. It is rapidly becoming a valued means by which to solve many of the food scarcity issues which have blighted many underserved areas of Charlotte. Orthodox medical practitioners are also becoming more aware of its powerful health usages, historically playing a significant role in maintaining human health and improving the quality of human life for thousands of years.  It is a valuable ingredient in medicines, seasonings, beverages, cosmetics and dyes and for these reasons, there is an increased market demand for Moringa locally.

The goal of the Nebedaye Moringa Farms Project is to address food insecurity issues and improve the quality of life in underserved areas of Charlotte by growing high value Moringa crops. The project is providing training in sustainable growing methods and appropriate practical trades with the development of Moringa products for the local market. This ongoing research and crop production is consistent with Charlotte's future plans for an urban agriculture sector.  This sector will have a key focus on increasing smallholder productivity and incomes through improved sustainable crops and practices in harmony with the environment.

Moringa can be purchased at our saturday neighborhood farmers market.
